At present, facial recognition technology has been assorted by 2 categories which are 2D recognition technology and 3D recognition technology. 2D facial recognition technology uses plane capture images as the template matching techniques. But in fact shape of people faces is 3D, 2D flat images is only a plane projection of actual faces, in this process, flat images can only capture partial information. So the performance of 2D facial recognition has been affected by environment light, people’s gestures, expressions, and other factors. 3D facial recognition is based on 3D images, so theoretically it has some advantages from 3D images information technology.
